Emily Cortes

About

Emily Cortes is a Legal Assistant at Barry E. Janay, P.C. She is currently completing her undergraduate studies at Rutgers University, where she is pursuing a double major in Political Science and Sociology with a minor in Psychology. Emily has long held an interest in the law and plans to continue her education in law school following her graduation in May 2026. She brings to the firm a strong foundation in research, writing, and client support, along with a thoughtful and compassionate approach to her work.

Specialization

Emily provides support to the firm’s attorneys by assisting with case organization, document preparation, and day-to-day administrative and client service needs. Her academic background and commitment to learning make her a valuable contributor to the firm’s legal operations.

Associations & Community Activities

Emily is deeply involved in community engagement and philanthropy. She is an active member of Phi Mu Fraternity, where she participates in and helps coordinate fundraising initiatives for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and serves as a liaison for the Embrace Kids Foundation, supporting children with rare blood disorders and cancer. She also plays an active role in the fraternity’s annual Casino Night event, which raises tens of thousands of dollars each year to support pediatric healthcare causes. 

Emily has held multiple leadership roles within the organization, including small group leader and assistant to the Executive Board’s Public Relations Officer.
